Video Analysis - Hi-Definition

Technique Comparison by Roger Einbecker

The purpose of this section of macthrowvideo is to centralize both videos and commentary on tools that will be helpful to coaches as they analyze the technique of their throwers.

 COMPARATIVE VIDEOS

The videos identified here are found in the larger video portion of Mac’s website.  These have been culled out because they show throwers from angles which best facilitate technique comparisons.  The best angles for analysis are (1) from the throwing side of the athlete at 90°, and (2) from the rear, directly behind the thrower.  Often, meet logistics and viewing options don’t allow for these angles to be captured so, in some cases, opposite side views have been included.

More videos will be added to this section as new videos are posted and older videos are reviewed.  Additional submissions are welcome. For those who are able to capture video from the proper angle and are willing to submit it to this site, please download it at the highest resolution.

Video Convertors

Depending on your video equipment and software, be prepared to have a variety of convertor tools that allow format changes to video.  Certain video formats may enable the most capabilities of particular software.  There are a myriad of video formats.  Don’t expect that everyone will work with your software.  Some dependable options are AVS Video Converter (www.avs4you.com) or Movavi Video Converter (http://movavi.com/videoconverter).

Video Editors

Video editing products may also be needed.  When analyzing videos, the few seconds of the actual throw is all that is necessary.  Making the files as small as possible by eliminating extraneous footage before and after the throws can help the performance of the analysis software.  Here again, many tools are available.    Windows Movie Maker comes free with Microsoft’s OS and will work for some video formats.

Video Players

Coaches with limited budgets may have to make due with video players. It may also be necessary to have multiple viewers to use all the video available (e.g., Windows Media Player, QuickTime from Apple).  A product mentioned through this website sometime ago remains available, Movie Snapshot. (http://www.cd2html.de/moviesnapshot.en.html).

There is much freeware available, but it must all be used with caution as with any software procured from the Internet. Constructive input from users of these tools is encouraged.
